​The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, voiced deep concern over the escalating tensions in western Libya, particularly the buildup of military forces near the capital, Tripoli. He stressed that the League is closely following developments, warning that the continuation of this course could risk dragging the country back into conflict, with grave consequences for Libya’s security and unity.

Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries opens health training programme in Rwanda

​In cooperation with the African-Middle Eastern Society of Gastroenterology, in coordination with the Rwandan Society of Gastroenterology, and in partnership with the Egyptian-African Society for Cardiology and Research and the Friends of the Heart Institute, the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries (AFTA) launched a training programme for gastroenterologists and cardiologists at King Faisal Hospital in Kigali, Rwanda. The programme is being held from 26 to 29 August.

​In support of Arab-African cooperation, His Excellency Ambassador Mohannad Saleh Lajouzi, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Director-General of the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries, held an extended working session with His Excellency Nasser Mazrui, Minister of Health of Zanzibar. The meeting took place on the sidelines of Ambassador Lajouzi's visit to the United Republic of Tanzania to oversee training courses for Tanzanian medical personnel.

General Secretariat convenes 16th meeting of Electricity Experts Committee

​At the invitation of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Energy Department), the 16th meeting of the Electricity Experts Committee is being held on 27 August at the headquarters of the General Secretariat, with the participation of electricity experts from member states. The agenda meant to be discussed includes the Arab Common Electricity Market and the peaceful uses of atomic energy.
