League welcomes agreement between Yemen parties on economic de-escalation

Gamal Roshdy, the spokesman for the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, welcomed the announcement by the Office of the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Yemen on an agreement between the Yemeni government and the Houthis regarding measures to de-escalate tensions in the banking sector and Yemeni Airlines.

He described the decision as absurd, politically bankrupt, and an insult to humanitarian and human rights efforts on an international level.

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptians Abroad of the Arab Republic of Egypt, at the General Secretariat headquarters in Cairo on 23 July. Model Arab Youth Parliament 2024

​The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Social Affairs Sector, Youth and Sports Department, Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Youth and Sports Ministers) organised the third edition of the Model Arab Youth Parliament for 2024 under the title “Towards Sustainable Community Participation.” The simulation model was held in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Arab Republic of Egypt, under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports and head of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports.

General Secretariat organises introductory training programme for Saudi Foreign Ministry delegation

​The Administrative and Financial Affairs Sector (Training and Work Methods Development Department) organised an introductory training programme on the activities of the League of Arab States for a delegation of diplomats from the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The programme took place from 21 to 25 July at the General Secretariat headquarters.

League's Secretary-General lauds ICJ ruling regarding illegality of occupation

​Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, lauded the opinion issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague on 19 July regarding the illegality of the ongoing Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories in the West Bank and Gaza for the past 57 years.
