General Secretariat convenes 48th ordinary session of Council of Arab Youth and Sports Ministers

​The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Social Affairs Sector – Youth and Sports Administration – Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Youth and Sports Ministers) convened the 48th ordinary session of the Council of Arab Youth and Sports Ministers, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Iraq. The session took place on 31 January in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani, Prime Minister of Iraq, who inaugurated the proceedings.

General Secretariat's statement on World Wetlands Day

​The world commemorates World Wetlands Day on 2 February each year, as designated by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 75/317. This date marks the adoption of the International Convention on Wetlands Conservation on 2 February 1971. The occasion serves as a global platform to raise awareness about the critical role of wetlands in sustaining human life and ensuring the ecological balance of our planet.  

League Secretary-General presides over Arab Dialogue Circle on "Artificial Intelligence in the Arab World: Innovative Applications and Ethical Challenges"

​The Arab Dialogue Circle will commence its activities on 2 February under the theme: "Artificial Intelligence in the Arab World: Innovative Applications and Ethical Challenges." The two-day event will be held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States under the patronage and chairmanship of His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General, with the participation of distinguished Arab and international experts from various sectors. The event is organised by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport and Naif Arab University for Security Sciences, in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, and will be attended by diplomatic, academic, and specialised figures.  

League supports World Interfaith Harmony Week

The world observes World Interfaith Harmony Week during the first week of February each year, following its adoption by the United Nations General Assembly through Resolution 65/5 on 20 October 2010.  
In its resolution, the General Assembly underscored the fundamental role of interfaith dialogue and understanding in fostering a global culture of peace and harmony. This annual observance serves as a vital platform for strengthening unity among individuals, irrespective of their religious affiliations.

General Secretariat high-level delegation visits Iraq, meets Iraq Prime Minister and Foreign Minister to discuss preparations for upcoming Arab Summit

​Assistant Secretary-General Ambassador Hossam Zaki led a high-level delegation from the General Secretariat on an official visit to Baghdad, entrusted by the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, on 29-30 January, with the objective of engaging with the Iraqi authorities and assessing the ongoing preparations for hosting the forthcoming Arab Summit in Iraq.  

General Secretariat begins preparatory meetings for the 48th session of Council of Arab Youth and Sports Ministers

​The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Social Affairs Sector – Youth and Sports Administration, Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Youth and Sports Ministers), in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Iraq, is organising the meetings of the technical committees supporting the Council (Youth, Sports, and Finance) on 29 January. These meetings will be followed by the 71st session of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Youth and Sports Ministers, scheduled for 30 January in the Republic of Iraq.
