League condemns targeting of displaced people, civilians, relief workers in Darfur's Zamzam and Abu Shouk camps

​Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, vehemently condemned the heinous and coordinated ground and aerial assaults carried out over the past three days by the Rapid Support Forces on the city of El Fasher, as well as on the Zamzam and Abu Shouk camps for internally displaced persons. These brutal attacks, as reported by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, have claimed the lives of over 100 people—including 20 children and 14 staff members of international relief organisations—and left nearly 200 wounded.

League Secretary-General denounces Israel's repeated assaults on Syria

​Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, unequivocally condemned the Israeli occupation forces' bombing of the village of Koya in the western countryside of Daraa, southern Syria—an attack that resulted in the martyrdom and injury of innocent civilians. He reaffirmed his absolute rejection of Israel’s continued aggression against Syrian territory, denouncing it as a flagrant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and an opportunistic exploitation of the country’s fragile circumstances to encroach upon its land and foment discord and instability.  

League, Ahl Masr Foundation for Development forge agreement to advance humanitarian cooperation

The League of Arab States marks its 80th anniversary on 22 March of this year, commemorating eight decades of diplomatic and strategic engagement in the service of the Arab world. Established in 1945, the League of Arab States stands as the world's oldest regional organisation, predating the United Nations. Its founding was a direct response to the growing call for Arab unity, the struggle for liberation from colonial rule, and the pressing political challenges facing the region at the time. From its inception, the League has sought to strengthen ties among member states by harmonising positions and fostering cooperation across various fields.

Aboul Gheit denounces Israel's brutal raids on Gaza

​Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, condemned in the strongest terms the brutal Israeli raids on the Gaza Strip, which left hundreds dead and wounded, most of them women and children. He considered the resumption of the massacre in Gaza to be an inhuman act and a challenge to the international will that supported the ceasefire.

League welcomes agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan

​The League of Arab States welcomed the announcement of a peace agreement between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, viewing it as a pivotal and essential step towards ending the longstanding conflict between the two nations and fostering sustainable peace in the Caucasus region.  

Aboul Gheit meets with newly appointed Representative of UN Secretary-General for Libya

​The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, received Ms. Hannah Tetteh, the newly appointed Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Libya and head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), at the General Secretariat headquarters on 12 March. The meeting provided an opportunity for an in-depth exchange of views on the latest developments in Libya.
