Joint committee of experts, representatives from Justice, Interior Ministries convene fifth meeting

​The Legal Affairs Department will convene the fifth meeting of the joint committee consisting of experts and representatives from the Ministries of Justice and Interior, as well as relevant authorities in member states. The purpose of this meeting is to examine the "Draft Arab Guidance Law to Prevent Hate Speech," scheduled to take place on 23-24 April at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, at 10 am Cairo time.

​The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo will host on 23 April the commencement of the 61st session of the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee. The session will encompass discussions on both the second periodic report of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the initial report of the Arab Republic of Egypt. These discussions are part of the ongoing monitoring of Arab countries' adherence to their obligations under the Arab Charter on Human Rights and assessing their commitment to implementing its provisions.

Towards a united world: International conference on the role of media and information literacy in promoting global peace

​In a significant move highlighting the pivotal role of media and information culture in fostering global understanding and peace, the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States is hosting the inaugural session of a high-level conference titled "Media and Information Culture for World Peace." Organised by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in collaboration with the UNESCO Alliance for Culture, Media, and Informatics, along with the Autonoma University of Barcelona, the conference is held from 22 to 24 April.

​Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, met with Dr. Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories on 21 April at the headquarters of the General Secretariat. The discussion centred on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, given the continued Israeli violations against the civilian population over the past several months.
